LaGuardia Community College Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative/Long Island City, NY (Queens, NY)LaGUARDIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Job Description Background: 10,000 Small Businesses is a national $500 million investment by Goldman Sachs to spur growth and job creation in small businesses over the next five years. Goldman Sachs selected LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York as the pilot partner to design and launch 10,000 Small Businesses. Through an unprecedented combination of classroom training, expert advice and mentoring, business owners will develop and implement strategies to grow their firms. Those business owners selected to participate in this intensive six-month program will receive rigorous training on business fundamentals through a curriculum devised by the nation's top business schools and tailored to the practical needs of small firms. Consulting and executive mentoring from business professionals at Goldman Sachs will give participants the chance to transform their learning into action. By the time business owners graduate from the program, they will have formulated their growth plans and be on track to expand and develop their businesses. LaGuardia Community College has made the 10,000 Small Businesses initiative a significant program in its Adult and Continuing Education (â€Å"ACEâ€) division. The resources of the entire division have been committed to making the program a success. The ACE staff has worked hard to develop the key components of the program. The College is now seeking individuals to launch, lead, manage and continuously improve the program to ensure that it is meeting the small business needs of the New York City community. The Position: Under the direction of the Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education, the Executive Director will lead the successful development, implementation, and operation of 10,000 Small Businesses at LaGuardia Community College. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all components of this high-profile program including the development and delivery of curriculum and business services and the day-to-day management of program operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate vision, management expertise, an in-depth knowledge of small business growth strategies, and an understanding of service delivery operations. He or she will possess the ability to manage people in a fast-paced, growing environment, manage a budget, and design effective programs to deliver for program participants. An integral component of the position is ensuring the curriculum, business services, networking, and mentoring components are comprehensive and enable small businesses to grow and lead to job creation. The Executive Director must be a self-starter with the desire and ability to generate innovative methods for helping small businesses and bolstering job creation. The successful candidate will convey a compelling vision to staff, partners, program funders, and to current and potential program participants. The Executive Director will be a leader, problem solver, skillful communicator, creative, opportunistic, and an effective collaborator. He or she must work closely and effectively with the Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education along with administrators and educators at LaGuardia, and external partners, including Goldman Sachs, academic partners, and financial institutions. The Executive Director will develop and lead a culture of transparency, learning, hard work, and integrity. Specific responsibilities: · Launch, operate, and continuously improve 10,000 Small Businesses at LaGuardia Community College too help small businesses expand and create jobs · Develop and effectively manage key relationships with Goldman Sachs, the 10,000 Small Business Advisory Board, and other key stakeholders in the academic, political and business community · Manage and support program staff to deliver on the program's vision · Coordinate efforts across different areas of the College, inside and outside of direct reporting lines, to deliver a unified and comprehensive program · Oversee operations including staffing, budgeting, service delivery, and curriculum delivery · Lead the continuous development and improvement of innovative and practical solutions to address the needs of small businesses in the realm of curriculum, services, technical assistance and networking · Ensure the high quality service delivery and tight integration of the academic, businesses services and mentoring components · Develop targeted outreach, marketing and recruitment plans to attract the right businesses to the program · Create and implement effective performance metrics to measure the success of the program · Lead the implementation and ongoing collection of data to manage performance, understand the needs of small businesses, and inform future program design. Utilize technology where necessary. · Develop and manage effective relationships with partners to continue to secure funding, draw upon expertise, and create beneficial referral networks Qualifications: · Advanced degree from an accredited school · Entrepreneurial in spirit and ability to find innovative ways to grow an organization and serve program participants · Five years of senior management experience with a track record of progressive responsibility, preferably in private industry or a large community or governmental organization · Experience in operating a small business and/or an in-depth knowledge of growth strategies for small businesses · Background in building and mentoring a high performance management team in a complex organization with demonstrable skill in developing strong teams and collaborations · Knowledge of how to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders · Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
