Strategic Energy Innovations/San Rafael, CAStrategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is seeking to identify volunteer interns to support our work in each of our primary focus areas: Eco-Smart Schools and Universities, Green Housing, and Sustainable Communities. This is a part-time, unpaid position, based out of our San Rafael, Marin County Office. Volunteer applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with internship start dates to be negotiated on an individualized basis. ABOUT SEI AND OUR PROGRAMS SEI is a non-profit organization with a 13-year history and based in Marin County. Through funding from federal, state, municipal, private foundations and other clients, SEI supports under-served markets, such as school districts, colleges/universities, local governments, and affordable housing providers and their residents, to embrace a sustainable future through green building, clean energy, resource efficiency and related technologies, programs and initiatives. INTERN NEEDS AND ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES The SEI management team has identified the following needs for intern support: Sector Support Areas Education (K-12) ➢ Work in our summer camp with energy related activities for youth aged 6-12, (late May through July full time preferable, þ time okay) ➢ Support our Youth-at-Work program that aims to train and place at-risk populations in sustainable, green jobs (May through August, half time) ➢ Develop and refine curriculum to expand our high school energy efficiency certificate program, that may include creating video-based trainings (Spring/summer, 5-8 hours/week) ➢ Compile and analyze energy savings related data from several years of school programs (Spring or summer 16 hrs/week) ➢ Assist in gathering information from school coordinators about existing programs (Approximately 20 hrs/week) Education (College/University) ➢ Support Higher Ed Program Director to research, prioritize and pursue corporate giving and foundation grants to resource our Green Demonstration Program on 1 or more campuses (Spring/summer, 10 hrs/week) ➢ Identify, contact and document interest of green retailers/vendors to participate in our Green Demonstration Program on 1 or more campuses (Spring/summer, 10 hours/week) ➢ Support the Higher Education team to advance and document progress of our active campus programs (Spring/summer, 10 hours/week) Sustainable Communities ➢ Greenhouse gas inventories and climate action plan development: Assist with data collection and analysis. ➢ Green workforce research and analysis: Assist with primary and secondary research on green jobs markets and trends for a region of California. ➢ Climate Program Implementation: Assist with startup of new climate partnership for small cities. May include work related to program design, analysis of options, management of contracts for energy efficiency retrofits, and community outreach. (NOTE: Weekly time commitment dependent on individual and role.) Green Housing ➢ Support Green Housing team to develop green resident and property management training materials and services for affordable housing. (Spring/summer, 10 hrs/week) ➢ Support Green Housing Program Director to research, prioritize and pursue community foundation and energy service company opportunities to fund affordable housing training programs. (Spring/summer, 10 hrs/week) ➢ Compile and synthesize accomplishments from several years of resident training programs. (Spring or summer 10 hrs/week) ➢ Help documenting and advancing current building retrofit project. (Spring/summer, 10 hrs/week) QUALIFICATIONS Generally, SEI intern candidates will posses a basic familiarity with the Internet and the Microsoft suite of office automation software (e.g.: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) Qualified candidates will also evidence strong writing and verbal communication skills, in addition to having the following qualities, skills, and experience: - Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline, environmental studies, or related field or equivalent work experience; - Ability to commit to a minimum of 150 hours over the course of a 3-month period. Additionally, candidates interested in targeting one or more of our sector-specific internships will demonstrate the following: Sector Qualifications Education (K-12) ➢ Summer camp: ââ¬Â¢ Strong interpersonal skills, preferable experience working with youth, ability to engage and discipline youth, extremely responsible and good organizational skills. ➢ Support Youth-at-Work program: ââ¬Â¢ Familiarity working with and motivating at-risk youth, in addition to being detail oriented and possessing training/mentoring skills and experience ➢ Curriculum development: ââ¬Â¢ Experience writing/reviewing curriculum that meets State instructional standards ââ¬Â¢ Film and video editing skills a plus ➢ Compile and analyze energy savings: ââ¬Â¢ Comfortable building spreadsheets, formulas, and analyzing data (in Excel and Filemaker Pro.)
